About Me

Who is Helen Young?
When you have to put a whole lifetime onto one page it really does make you think about who you really are! I'm Helen, (hi, how're you doing?) and I have been dabbling in art all my life. I have had lots of jobs over the years, from being a trainee chef to a China Figurine Painter for Royal Worcester; an office administrator to an entertainer on a holiday site (company name with-held, to keep my sanity!) and in my last job I was an Archivist for Nationwide Building Society. How did I come to be an Artist? Well I got ill with Fibromyalgia and had to give up work.

I didn't know what I was going to do with the rest of my life. I took to drawing during the few moments when I wasn't in total agony and found that it made me feel a bit better - I suppose as I was able to get my feelings about my health down in an abstract sort of way. I've learned to live with the condition and over time have managed to find ways to adapt my approach to art so that I can achieve and do more for less pain! Always a good thing, don't you think?

So here we are on the next leg of my journey in life. I have decided that as I love art so much and have kept coming back to it over the years, it is time to say 'I'm an Artist!' and get out there and show people what I can do. I love fantasy art so am looking to do works in that subject. I have inadvertently become a wildlife artist because of commission requests from people wanting animal pictures. Hey, I aim to please! I'm going to be doing all sorts of subjects in the coming months, in all sorts of media. There is bound to be something for everyone. I'm going to include opportunities to buy prints, cards, keyrings, fridge magnets and of course original artworks over time, plus whatever else I can think of - bookmarks anyone? :o) Let me know what you think of the site (no swearing please) and if you want anything creating specially, then let me know and I'll see what I can do for you.

Have a great day and take care of yourself.
